BECOME A MASTER TRAINER IN BEHAVIORAL THREAT ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT (BTAM) TECHNIQUES - U.S. ONLY



The Counterterrorism Group (CTG) is pleased to announce this excellent program from The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Intelligence & Analysis (I&A), National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) Program Office for Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (F/SLTT) partners to become trained in Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) techniques.

The Master Trainer Program application window is NOW OPEN and will remain open until 11:59pm EST on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

The Master Trainer Program (MTP) certifies Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (F/SLTT) partners in the instruction of Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) techniques and best practices. This instructor development program prepares F/SLTT partners to train their local communities and empowers homeland partners to mitigate threats and prevent acts of targeted violence.

Once accepted into the MTP, candidates begin the Master Trainer Certification Roadmap. Candidates may complete the roadmap in any order. Upon completion, candidates will be certified as Master Trainers.

It must be submitted to MTPApplications@hq.dhs.gov by November 30, 2023.

A fully completed application includes:

1. A completed and signed Candidate Application Form

2. A current resume

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to review the MTP webpage for additional details on minimum requirements, next steps, application materials, and program expectations. All applicants must be U.S. Citizens and have endorsement from their organization and/or supervisor to participate.


Important Notice: Based on high demand, only fully completed applications received within the defined application window will be considered. PLEASE review your application to ensure that you have completed all six (6) pages of the Master Trainer Program Application Form and attached your resume.


Selected applicants will be notified of their selection to the MTP no later than January 2024. Selected applicants will be expected to attend a virtual orientation event prior to their scheduled course. Information regarding the virtual orientations will be sent out following selection notifications.
